  • What do I do if there is a septic odor in my house?

First, make sure there isn’t a dry drain in a sink or shower by running water for a couple of minutes in each. A dry drain will allow gases from the septic system to get into your home. If there is still an odor, call your septic company for further evaluation.

  • What do I do if there is a septic odor outside?

An odor outside could come from several different sources, such as the vent on your roof, the vent over the leach field, the breakout over the leach area, or a neighbor’s septic system. If you need a septic company to offer insight, call Chase-Harris Septic Service for help and suggestions for a solution.

  • What is a breakout?

Breakout occurs in septic pumping when the septic water (effluent) no longer gets absorbed through the leaching area. It comes to the surface, causing odors and health hazards.

  • How often should I pump my tank?

We recommend septic pumping every one to two years. This is depending on the tank's age and your household habits. Pumping is to remove the scum and sludge layers that accumulate. According to the EPA, a septic tank should be pumped if 25% or more of the liquid is scum and sludge.

  • Do we need to be home to pump our tank?

We can do your septic pumping service while you are out of the house.

  • Does Chase-Harris Septic Service help with Title 5 Inspections?

As a trusted septic company, we absolutely can help with your Title 5 Inspection of your septic tank.

  • Are there state tax credits available for Title 5 work?

Yes, there are tax credits available! Check out the Mass.gov website to learn information about the tax credit regarding septic cleaning, installation, and maintenance.
